At 8760, we help Alberta households explore competitive electricity and natural gas rates. Our Home Energy Program offers fixed-rate options with flexible contract terms, as well as variable-rate plans that fluctuate with market conditions.

Whether you're looking to compare electricity rates in Edmonton, Calgary, or elsewhere in Alberta, we're here to help you understand your options and make an informed choice.

How Much Could You Save on Electricity?

Let's look at a simple example using average Alberta household electricity consumption. According to Alberta's Utilities Consumer Advocate, an average Alberta household uses approximately 600 kWh of electricity per month.

If you're currently paying the Rate of Last Resort (RoLR) at approximately 12.01¢/kWh, your monthly electricity energy charge would be around $72.

With our 8760 Home Energy Program, our 1-year fixed electricity rate starts at 6.98¢/kWh. At the same monthly consumption, your energy charge would be approximately $42. That's an illustrative difference of approximately: $30 per month and over $360 per year

These calculations compare electricity energy charges only, based on 600 kWh of monthly consumption. Delivery, administration, and other applicable fees are additional. Actual savings depend on your consumption, location, current rate, and applicable charges.

What Is Happening with Alberta's Rate of Last Resort?

Alberta's current Rate of Last Resort ranges from 12.01¢ to 12.06¢/kWh, depending on the service area, and remains in place until December 31, 2026.

The next rate period begins January 1, 2027. With the transition approaching, now is a good opportunity to compare Alberta electricity rates and explore available fixed-rate options.

If you're currently on regulated electricity service, you may want to compare your current price of power with competitive electricity plans available in your area.

What About Natural Gas Prices?

Electricity isn't the only part of your household utility bill worth reviewing. Natural gas prices can also have a significant impact on your winter energy costs.

We understand why some households prefer variable natural gas rates. When market prices are low, floating rates can be attractive and may offer savings.

However, natural gas prices fluctuate with market conditions, and seasonal demand can bring additional uncertainty during the colder months.

If you prefer predictable energy costs rather than monitoring changes in the natural gas market, a fixed-rate plan may be worth considering.

For November, we've lowered our Home Energy Program natural gas rates. Our available options start at:

  • $3.18/GJ – 1-year fixed term

  • $3.38/GJ – 2-year fixed term
